Mexican politician, scientist, and academic
Claudia Sheinbaum, the first woman and first Jewish person to become Mexico's president. Who is she?
Another globalist technocrat rises to power on the world stage. This time, in Mexico.
Claudia Sheinbaum, a decorated climate scientist and the former mayor of Mexico City from 2018 to 2023 has been elected and will replace her mentor, outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on October 1st.
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (who can’t serve more than his six year term) supported her election. Having the backing of the popular president, who has an approval rating of almost 60%, gave Sheinbaum’s campaign a massive boost.

Seen & Heard: WHO IS CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM?
She’s described as a mainstream leftist politician and a leftist-leaning engineer.
Sheinbaum is a close ally of outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. It is said that some expect his influence will continue.
Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo was born June 24th, 1962 to a secular Jewish family in Mexico City. Her paternal Ashkenazi grandparents emigrated from Lithuania to Mexico City in the 1920s. Her maternal Sephardic grandparents emigrated there from Sofia, Bulgaria, in the early 1940s to escape the Holocaust. She celebrated the major Jewish holidays at her grandparents' homes.
Sheinbaum has a background in environmental policy, having served as Minister of the Environment for Mexico City. Sheinbaum served as Mexico City’s environment minister in the early 2000s.
A scientist by profession, Sheinbaum received her Doctor of Philosophy in energy engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. She has authored over 100 articles and two books on energy, the environment, and sustainable development. She contributed to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and in 2018 was named one of the BBC's 100 Women.
She has published more than 20 scientific articles on energy efficiency, a topic she wrote about as part of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report in 2007, the year that the IPCC won a Nobel Peace Prize.
TOUTING FEMINISM + GENDER EQUALITY
Sheinbaum has openly identified herself as a feminist, aligning her beliefs and actions with the principles of gender equality and women's rights. She advocates for the legalization of abortion, aligning her stance with broader movements aimed at promoting reproductive rights and autonomy for women. During her leadership in Mexico City, Sheinbaum championed LGBT rights. In 2019, Sheinbaum implemented a gender-neutral uniform policy for students in state-run schools, allowing them to wear uniforms of their choice regardless of gender. In 2022, she became the first Head of Government of Mexico City to attend the city's pride march.
DECOLONIZATION
In 2021, Sheinbaum removed a statue of Christopher Columbus from Mexico City's Paseo de la Reforma as part of what she referred to as a "decolonization" exercise.
